Let’s Go To The Weapon Shop

Five gold coins?

When I returned to the barracks, I looked at the contents of the bag I received at the reward ceremony and suddenly I heard a voice.

The currency of this world is gold, silver and copper coins.

One gold coin is 100 silver coins.

One silver coin is 100 copper coins.

If you consider one copper coin as 100 yen, it will be easy.

In reality, there is a large silver coin, which is equivalent to 10 silver coins, a large copper coin, which is equivalent to 10 copper coins, and small copper coin that is worth a quarter of a copper coin. A small copper coin is worth about 25 yen. Goods cheaper than that are basically sold in bulk for 25 yen.

A silver coin is worth 10,000 yen and a gold coin is worth 1 million yen.

That’s five pieces!

Five million yen!

I jumped happily.

“Yo! What’s the money for?”

(There you go, handsome!) I said in my mind.

“Oh! You were given three gold coins, weren’t you Wayne-kun?”

“Shut up, Sergeant Patrick-sama, who got five coins!”

“Nishishishi” We laughed together.

“Let’s go to the weapons store!”

I invited Wayne.

If you’re enlisted into the army of this kingdom, there’s a minimum provision for military equipment.

A private (commoner recruits start here) has one spear. A first-class soldier has a spear and a one-handed sword.

But the supplies are not new.

And a sergeant (noblemen’s recruits start here) has a spear and a two-handed sword, but they are also used item.

Some of them are on the verge of breaking. In fact, this was Patrick’s first real battle, and his spear had broken on the first blow.

So he was forced to fight with a two-handed sword, and because he was fighting at a distance that can be reached by an orc club, he was hit at the back of his head.

“I don’t want to be hit with a club.”

Wayne laughs and agrees.

“The spear look good, don’t they?”

These are Patrick’s impressions the weapon shop.

In this world, the main weapon in battle is often a spear.

The main reason for this is the advantage of being able to attack monster while maintaining some distance from them.

Even against humans with the same strength, if the spear fight against the sword, the spear has the advantage.

The cheapest one start from 50 silver coins, but when a spear of 1 gold coin is lined up next to it, it is easy to see that the spear is not a good choice even for a layman. It’s enough to make the difference.

Weapons for life are more important than money.

The pro and con of a weapon varies from person to person.

Some people are particular about the sharpness of the sword, the durability, or the handling and weight. Occasionally, though, there are people who says they value the appearance.

“What do you think, Wayne?”

“I’d like one that’s reasonably heavy and strong.”

Then the clerk suggested.

“In that case, this is it. Nii-chan has a good physique, and you can do more damage with this kind of weight.”

The spear that he brought out.

It was an all-iron spear.

“It looks heavy.”

I said, and the clerk replied.

“It’s hollow inside and not so heavy.” he says.

I see, so it was made like a pipe.

Wayne picks it up and shake it lightly.

“What’s the price?”

He likes it.

“Two gold coins.”

“Too expensive. One gold and 50 silver!”

“No, no, it’s made by a good craftsmen using quality iron, one and 75!

“There’s got to be something in there! One and 65!”

“That’s the limit, one and 70!”

“Well, that’s fine.”

1.7 million yen.

“So, which one do you want, Nii-chan?”

“I’m light, so i prefer something sharp.”

“This is what you’re looking for.”

The owner of the store drew two spears from the back.

“The one has a slightly short handle, so it’s lighter, easier to handle and has an excellent sharpness. And this one is of normal length with a smaller spear tip, so it feels light when held. The sharpness is exceptional.”

With the middle finger of my left hand, I tap the side of my single-lidded black eye. It’s a habit of mine when I think, but this way I can think calmly.

(You can hit the back of the head with a longer reach, right?)

I concluded that.

“This one with short tip! But is it expensive?”

I asked the owner.

“For that spear, I’ll give you special offer this time, one gold coin!”

“Oh!”

“Deal!”

“Thank you for the purchase!”

After they left, the landlady asked

“Why did you sell that spear for a single gold coin? Couldn’t you have gotten a few more?”

The shopkeeper asked back.

“Is there something wrong with you?”

“Stupid husband!”

There was angry shout and slap sound coming from inside the store.

Sometimes the less you know, the better.
