Chapter 66 - A Good Day for Moving

"—Phew..."

The lid automatically opened, sensing me sit up.

Letting the reclining function do the work, I rose and exhaled, taking stock of my body's sensations.

Even though my physical body was just sleeping, it's often said that the mind affects the body. A vague fatigue lingered throughout my limbs, as if still carrying the exhaustion from the previous day's battle with [Angalta, God-Wedge Sword-King].

"Alright, then."

Grabbing the insulated water bottle I'd prepared on the side rack next to my [Arcadia] rig, I surveyed my castle—an eight-mat, single room.

While I wouldn't call myself a minimalist, I'm the type who doesn't like to accumulate too many possessions, so my room could be described in one word: barren. A bed, a desk, a chair, a shelf—the bare minimum of furniture, one of each.

That's precisely why the ridiculously large VR rig just barely fit... but yeah, seriously, this wasn't how it was supposed to go.

"...Well, if things had gone according to plan, I never would have met Sora."

Thinking back on it, it really was a divinely orchestrated accident. The truth is, this VR rig wasn't supposed to be delivered to my family home, but to my new apartment in Tokyo where I was about to start living alone.

That much is obvious. There's no way I'd have a piece of precision equipment this massive, requiring professional assembly, delivered to my pre-move address... but due to some kind of mix-up, it ended up being delivered to my family home ten days ago.

I honestly have no idea what kind of mix-up it was, but this thing was originally scheduled to be delivered to my new place tomorrow.

In other words—ah, there's the doorbell!

"Coming!"

Responding to the chime, I left my room, which was now a little emptier from the boxes I'd already shipped. Judging by the time, it had to be the professional movers.

As an apology for the mix-up—though it was really the least they could do—they were going to disassemble, redeliver, and reassemble it all free of charge.

For my part, I had nothing but positive feelings about the whole thing. I got to dive into Arcadia nearly two weeks early and, most importantly, it led me to meet my irreplaceable partner.

—Anyway,

"Haru, someone's at the door."

"Yep, I got it. Can I leave the rest to you after I talk to them?"

I exchanged words with my mother on the way to the front door.

"You okay on time for the train?"

"I still have a little while, so I'm fine. But I'll probably head out right after this to be safe."

I briefly saw my dad as well and snatched the shoulder bag I'd left out for a quick departure.

"I'm not going to say it again, but make sure you get your act together, okay?"

"Call us once you get there. Be safe."

"Yeah, roger that."

I wasn't at an age where I'd get sentimental about leaving home. We'd already had plenty of farewell conversations over the past few days, so a simple scene like this was more than enough for my departure.

"Well then, I guess—I'm off!"

The sky was clear today. A good day for moving.
