Chapter 144 - Things I'd Always Wanted

To the backdrop of a gentle drizzle that continued for a while, I spent about an hour making bed parts.

With only assembly left, I decided to carry them into the [Mountain Cabin].

"Will you assemble it inside?"

"Yeah. It'd be too much trouble to try to bring a fully assembled one through the entrance."

I had dismantled the old bed and carried it out roughly, too.

The chairs came out easily enough, but the table was a tight squeeze.

As for the table and chairs, the [Appraisal] results were: [Old Luxury Table] and [Old Luxury Chair].

They seemed like antiques. However, they were solidly built with no need for repair, so they must have been well-made to begin with.

Only the bed was shoddy. Perhaps the person who wrote the 'Record' brought it in, or made it themselves...

"Lupi, sorry. Wake up."

"Woofun."

When I opened the entrance, Lupi immediately perked up and ran over.

After a thorough petting, I gently squeezed her face, and Lupi happily narrowed her eyes.

Now that I think about it...

"Still snoring away..."

"Woof..."

Lupi looked exasperated too.

Still, it felt wrong to wake her while she was drooling peacefully, so I picked up both ends of the [Greydeer] hide, holding it like a hammock.

Lupi gently took it in her mouth and softly carried it outside. Then she brought it into the storehouse.

"Lupi-chan is so kind."

"If you ask who's higher-ranking, it might be Lupi..."

I opened both wooden windows to let in light, then dispelled the light spirit's illumination.

I had intended to bring the bed parts in without waking the [Fairy], but it seems this one won't wake up no matter what...

"Where will the bed go?"

"I'm planning to put it on the right side as you enter the entrance."

Previously, it was in the back left, with the head at the east side, but now there's the back door there.

The back right has the stairs leading down to the first floor, so I can't put it there.

"Along the wall?"

"Yep, making the south side the headboard, from around here... to about there."

That's the space from the front-right corner of the room to the right wooden window.

Beyond that, there's already a hole, or rather, a space for the stairs to the first floor... I'll have to make a railing later.

"Are the table and chairs on the left side?"

"Yeah. The view from this window is better on this side."

"You're right."

The window on the right side, facing the mountain, only shows the adjacent storehouse now.

From the left window, though you can't see the sea, you can see the spring, which is nice.

On rainy days, it'd be nice to read inside with some tea.

"Alright, then, shall I assemble it?"

It's a simple bed, but... I'd be happy if Mion was a little surprised.

"Shou-kun, isn't that bed... tall?"

"Yeah. It's a loft bed. It's a low one, though, since too high would make it unstable. Whoa there!"

I stood it upright, which I'd assembled on its side, and pushed it flush against the wall.

The bed's height was about chest level. Usually, the space underneath is used for storage, but...

"Lupi~?"

"Woof."

"Bring your bedding over here."

At my words, she ran over, holding the [Greydeer] hide in her mouth.

Ah, it looks like the [Fairy] already went home? Well, I was making a lot of noise hammering, after all.

"Thanks. Lupi, you sleep here. I'll be up top."

"Woofun!"

"I see!"

At chest height, a ladder wasn't necessary. I put my hands on it, lifted my body, and slid in.

Yeah, the roof is higher on the right side, so it doesn't feel cramped. Now, I should probably lay a [Greydeer] hide up here for myself, too.

"Whoa. How's it for you, Mion?"

"It's S-class!"

"No, no, loft beds are sold normally, you know..."

I'd always wanted a loft bed.

This way, it becomes Lupi's space, and maybe I'll put a small shelf in the foot space? No, if Lupi gets any bigger, it might be too small?

"Whoa. Next, let's carry in the table and chairs."

"Yes."

"By the way, what time is it now?"

"It's a little past 3:30."

It's an awkward time...

If I'm going to put a roof over the dirt floor, I'll have to start by driving in two pillars.

For now, maybe finish that much, and then the daytime work is over?

"Something like this?"

"You're digging quite deep."

"I plan to bury sturdy foundation stones."

"F-foundation stones?"

Normally, people wouldn't know that, huh?

Well, it's faster to show her, so I'll quickly make a foundation stone with [Stone Wall] magic, but will it work?

"Uhm, just watch for a bit."

"Yes."

First, I prepared a square timber of the same thickness as the pillar I was going to erect.

Then, I covered it with a large, thick piece, saying,

"."

Then, I pulled out the square timber, and the foundation stone was complete.

"This is a foundation stone. It's a very simple foundation, I guess."

"I see!"

After that, I'll insert the actual pillar, then fill the surrounding soil, compact it, fill it, compact it...

"Alright, that's the first one done."

"That's a lot of work."

"Yeah. Nowadays, concrete foundations are the norm, so people probably don't have to go through this much trouble."

In urban areas, there are hardly any places that do foundation work from scratch.

I wonder if they do it in places like where my mother is now?

"Alright, I'll set one more pillar and then finish up."

"Yes."

By evening, I might be able to put on the roof, and if possible, even build the [Stone Kiln]?

I want to finish moving today, but...

"I'm home."

"Welcome back."

After setting the second pillar, I immediately logged out to sleep in the [Mountain Cabin].

When I returned to the [Virtual Club Room],

"Hello there~."

"Ah, Yata-sensei, 'sup. Is something up?"

Bell-buchou's homework seems to be done, so was there anything else?

"I told them about you meeting my mother and deciding on the channel name."

"Ah, that's right!"

"That's right~. It seems Shou-kun met Mion-san's mother's approval~, which is wonderful~."

'Met her approval'...?

"Yata-sensei, you knew a lot, didn't you? If you had explained it a little earlier, I would've been better prepared, you know?"

"That would have been bo... By the way, what's the new channel name~?"

This person just tried to say 'boring,' didn't they?

"Uhm, it's [Mion and Shou's Relaxed Showtime]."

"That's nice~. You're making a pun with Shou~."

It's true, but I'd prefer the 'relaxed' part to be the main focus...
