Chapter 4 - Relaxed Solo Life
“Finally, I’m logged in. What should I do about streaming…?”
Mion-san, who came before, said she’d come again.
Hmm, well, if too many people find out and it gets troublesome, I can just stop streaming. For now, I’ll just let it flow with the default settings.
That aside, I need to finish the tent I started yesterday.
The [Driftwood] I left there is… still there. Good, good, a relief.
Hum hum~♪
I’ll make two tripods out of [Driftwood], then lay a piece of [Driftwood] across them as a spine. That should complete the frame. After that, for cloth… I guess it’ll just have to be leaves, huh?
Well, I guess I’ll explore the island while looking for leaves near the tent. Just then, the number of viewers dropped to one.
[Mion has started watching.]
“Hello.”
“Mion-san, hello.”
“I was curious, so I came to watch.”
“Thanks, thanks. I don’t think it’ll be very interesting, though.”
“That’s not true.”
She's an eccentric one, I thought, giving her a thumbs-up.
“Alright, first, let’s explore the southeastern part of the island.”
The [Safe Zone] is the [Sandy Beach] to the south. I decided to go counter-clockwise.
The [Dense Forest] I explored a bit yesterday is mostly filled with tropical trees, so it seems like I should gather some large leaves from around here.
“Oh, a rabbit.”
A stone throw, then a dagger. Yes, [Dismantling]. Meat acquired.
I tossed it into my inventory and proceeded further inland.
“Hmm, can my inventory capacity increase?”
“It seems you can equip [backpacks] and such.”
“Oh, I see. In that case, I’ll have to acquire the [Sewing skill] somewhere.”
“Do you intend to be able to do everything by yourself?”
“That’s right. My goal is to enjoy a relaxed solo life on this island.”
“I’ve never heard of enjoying a relaxed solo life in an MMORPG before.”
“Haha.”
It seems I tend to fall into a support role when playing with multiple people, and I just don’t enjoy it as much.
Especially when my older sister and foolish younger sister are around, it’s practically no different from being at home. I end up running around trying to entertain them…
I quickly advanced further, but only [Bicobit] rabbit monsters kept appearing. I swiftly defeated them…
[Character Level Increased!]
“Oh, my character level went up.”
Wow, a level up!
In [IRO], when you level up, you receive [Bonus Points (BP)], which you can allocate to [Skill Points (SP)] or [stat increases].
Of course, once allocated, they can’t be reverted to [BP], so caution is needed. Also, you can only store up to 100 [BP].
“Congratulations.”
“Thanks, thanks. For now, I’ll put all of them into stats, I guess.”
I still have [SP] left over from the special rewards I got when I started on the [Uninhabited Island], so I’ll prioritize raising my fundamental stats.
3 points into [STR], 2 each into [DEX], [INT], and [VIT], 1 into [AGI], and I’ll skip [LUK]. I have to do everything myself, so no maxing out one stat.
“Hm?”
I felt like something was beyond that thicket, but was I mistaken?
“Wasn’t there something deeper in the thicket just now?”
“See, I knew something was there.”
I calmed my racing heart and looked through the list of available skills.
Ah, there it is. I should have taken this first. Click. I acquired [Presence Detection: Lv1]. It seems most basic skills cost 1 [SP]. Should I acquire all convenient always-active skills?
“Hm? It’s still there…”
I further acquired [Presence Concealment: Lv1] and activated it. It might just be a placebo, but still.
I tried to silently advance towards the presence, suppressing my footsteps.
“There it is.”
Crouching and peeking through the thicket, I saw an obvious goblin.
“It finally feels like an RPG.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
I replied to Mion-san with a wry smile.
The goblin looked around for a while, then seemed to give up and left.
“Oh? Aren’t you going to defeat it?”
“Well, just watch.”
I pursued the departing goblin from the very edge of its detection range, and…
“See, it’s a [goblin settlement] after all.”
“Amazing!”
For now, I counted the visible goblins, then stealthily returned to my original spot.
“Aren’t you going to fight?”
“Hmm, there were about 20 visible. I don’t think I can solo that, honestly.”
“I see.”
“I want to defeat them eventually, but I need to figure out a strategy first…”
Well, for now, it’s on hold.
I’m the only one on this island, so I’ll level up for a while and then prepare properly.
Avoiding the [goblin settlement], I resumed exploring the eastern side of the island. The coast mostly consisted of rocky areas.
“I could probably fish. Hmm, I’m torn about acquiring the skill…”
“Fishing sounds nice!”
“Right? Fishing really feels like a slow life. I have [Woodcraft], so I should be able to make a fishing rod, but… Oh, but I don’t have a hook or line.”
Following the coast, weaving through the trees, I eventually reached a [cliff].
“Hmm, there must be some special path to get to the north side. Or maybe a quest?”
“Is that so?”
“It’s like a game trope, you know? Mion-san, do you not play many games?”
“I like watching, but not much playing. My reflexes aren’t very good.”
“Oh, I see. Then maybe turn-based strategy games, where you have time to think, would be good.”
“But then I wouldn’t be able to come watch this broadcast.”
“Hmm, wouldn’t that be more productive than watching this stream?”
“That’s not true. Besides, I’m a student, so I can’t play games for long.”
Ah, right, I’m a student too. Sorry.
While chatting idly with Mion-san, avoiding the [goblin settlement], and gathering many large leaves, I returned.
“Well, rough is fine.”
I wove the leaves into the makeshift tent frame and hung them, and it somewhat… looked like a tent.
“Oh! It’s nice and shaded inside… but it’s just the bare ground!”
“Hahahaha.”
Glad she found it amusing. That aside, I need to put something down.
“Hmm, I don’t have any straw…”
“Can’t you get rabbit hides?”
“Oh, right. Why can’t I get them? Will the [Dismantling] level up?”
“Maybe because they’re small?”
“Ah, that could be it. If there were boars or something… though I’m not sure if I could defeat them.”
Well, both my skills and level have slightly increased from hunting the horned rabbits—[Bicobit]—so it might be worth a try.
Tomorrow, I’ll investigate the western side, and I also need to figure out what to do about the [goblin settlement].
So much to do, it’s crazy…
“The date is about to change, so I’ll be taking my leave for today.”
“Ah, yes.”
Wait, I should get to sleep too.
I’ll try sleeping here and logging out…
Apparently, in this game, if you don’t perform a [sleep logout], your [MP] won’t recover while logged out.
Yesterday, when I logged out standing on the [Sandy Beach] in the [Safe Zone], my [MP] didn’t recover at all.
If I log in tomorrow and find my tent destroyed and myself dead, I’ll cry…
