Chapter 47 - Episode 42: Spoils of War and Cleanup

“Good work, everyone.”

“Good work. It was a great success!”

It’s almost 10 PM.
But when I look around, the corpses of the Goblin Leader, Goblin Magician, and Goblin Archers are scattered everywhere. There should be 16 more in the forest too…

“Um, can I go loot the spoils?”

“Ah, yes! Sorry the Q&A dragged on…”

“I’m sorry…”

“It’s fine, it’s fine.”

The extension of the Q&A session was Club President Bell’s improvisation. Well, that probably means questions flooded the comments.
Club President Bell’s Majo Bell streams prioritize comments and she diligently responds, and I agree with that, so I was prepared to go along with it if Yata-sensei didn’t get angry.

“We’ll take care of the cleanup here.”

“Got it. Well, I’ll start cleaning up my side too.”

“Woofun.”

What I got from dismantling the Goblin Leader was a [Magic Stone (Small)], which is one rank higher than the previous “Tiny” ones. The club it dropped was, well, mediocre.
From the Goblin Magician, I got a [Magic Stone (Tiny)], but the robe it was wearing and the Grimoire it held seemed valuable.

[Dingy Robe]
“Robe. Defense +1.”

Alright, failure~. Only +1 Defense. Even beginner leather armor has +5.

[Grimoire (Beginner)]
“Beginner Grimoire of Elemental Magic. Elemental Magic: …”

“It’s here!”

“What happened?”

“Ah, sorry. I can finally use offensive and defensive magic now.”

“You did it!”

I instinctively blurted it out, and Mion reacted.
Until now, my MP was practically useless. Ah, no, I did use it for and earlier.
Arts also consume MP, so in this game, it’s called Mana Points, not Magic Points. Well, if arts could be used infinitely, they’d be too strong. Like Vitals Attack.
From the Goblin Archers, I also got Tiny Magic Stones. Size-wise, it seems all but the leader drop Tiny ones. Plus, two shortbows and 15 arrows.
Whether to take the Bow skill is tricky, but for 1 SP, it might be worth it. Oh, my character level went up.
Hmm, 2 points each for STR, DEX, AGI, INT, VIT should be fine. I’ll take the Bow skill. Throwing skill probably has its range limits…
Then, I appraised the bows and arrows again. It’s pretty elaborate that Appraisal requires related skills for each item type.

[Broken Short Bow]
*“A short, curved bow. It’s on the verge of breaking. Attack Power +7.
Woodcraft: Repairable.”*

Oh, this is lucky? Ah, but I have bamboo, so I feel like I could make something better myself.

[Battered Wooden Arrow]
*“A wooden arrow. It’s battered and looks like it’s about to break. Attack Power +2.
Woodcraft: Not repairable.”*

If these had hit Lupi, they probably wouldn’t have dealt any damage.
Both shortbows being broken and all arrows being battered probably means they want me to use them as reference to craft my own…

Yata-sensei suddenly asked.

“I’m okay with it.”

“Yes, I think it’s fine to make it public.”

There’s no need to be coy about it.

“Good work, everyone.”

““Good work, everyone.””

He gave us a warning, but I guess it’s fine to play a bit late.

“I’m going to IRO for a bit too. The production team has called for me regarding the collaboration.”

“Ah, yes. Good work, Club President.”

“Thank you for today.”

The two left the room, and I once again “The live stream is over,” I thought to myself.
I haven’t checked how the comments were myself, but I guess it was well-received, right?

“Shou-kun, are you going to continue a bit longer?”

“Yeah, tomorrow’s Sunday, so I plan to play until I reach a good stopping point. Mion, if you’re tired, you can log off.”

“I’m fine!”

She sounded a bit high-strung, which made me wonder if she really was okay.

“How was doing the live stream?”

“It was so much fun. I was nervous before it started, but Yata-sensei told me, ‘It’s okay to just be yourself,’ and when I stumbled a bit, the club president covered for me.”

“That’s good then.”

“Thank you, Shou-kun.”

I was surprised by her sudden real voice. When I heard her at a proper volume, her voice was really nice…

“Ah, don’t push yourself.”

Well, I guess I should finish before the date changes. I feel a bit tired myself.

“So, the Safe Zone is still inside, then.”

If it’s not in this plaza, it must definitely be inside the cave.
It feels dim and eerie, but there’s no reaction from Presence Detection. Since there was a message saying “cleared,” there probably aren’t any enemies left.

“How about checking other places before looking inside?”

“Ah, yeah, you’re right.”

For now, I’ll hold off on the cave. There’s a Safe Zone on the beach anyway.
Moving a little further east along the cliff where the cave is, I found a very clear Mountain Stream after descending a bit.

“Woof!”

Lupi eagerly jumped in and began to swim, looking very happy.
The river is about 3 meters wide, and there’s no opposite bank, just a cliff. It doesn’t seem like I can go further.

“Now you don’t need to create water with magic anymore.”

“Ah, that’s right. For kneading clay or something, this water is perfectly fine.”

I could probably do laundry here too. I guess I should move my base to the plaza after all.

“Lupi, let’s go~.”

“Woofun!”

Lupi, who had returned, did a dog-drill, or rather, a wolf-drill, and her fluffiness was restored.
I hadn’t worried about it since it’s a game, but thinking about realism, maybe I should wash her occasionally? No, shampoo… I don’t have any soap.
Continuing east along the river, the current disappeared into the rugged rocky area along the coast.

“Huh? Have I been around here before?”

“Yes. If you go a little further, it’s where we came to the coast before.”

“Ah, so it comes out on top of that cliff… That means I still can’t get to the north side, then.”

In the opposite direction, with the cave to the west, the path towards the island’s center continues as a cliff, turning into a rocky mountain.
Beyond that, is it the area where the Armor Bears are?
Well, tomorrow I’ll thoroughly investigate inside the cave. If a Safe Zone has appeared inside, I’d like to move my base to that plaza and think about countermeasures against the Armor Bears.

“Woof?”

“Hm, alright. Let’s go. I’m going to go loot the spoils from the goblins I defeated earlier.”

“Yes.”

I also need to disarm and retrieve all the traps I set.
If I’m moving my base, I’ll also need to thin out the trees around the plaza to improve visibility, and then…

“Woof!”

“Ah, sorry, sorry.”

Lupi must be tired too, so I’ll just quickly collect everything and call it a night…
