Chapter 70 - Chapter 63 Spirit Stones and Spirit Magic

“Ugh, is it raining?”

The player guild discussion was postponed until tonight, and the video was successfully uploaded and started to gain views, so I logged into IRO. But…

“It’s really coming down.”

“Whimper.”

Lupi looked dejected as we gazed out from the cave; it was raining hard enough that I didn’t feel like going outside. It’s a problem that I can’t cook when it rains because the stone kiln is outside.

“No cooking then. Lupi, we’ll eat inside, so wait a bit.”

“Woof.”

“We should put a roof over at least the stone kiln.”

“Yeah. Still, it’s a place where fire is used, so maybe it’s better to build with stone brick walls after all.”

If I could make a corrugated iron roof, then a stone wall + corrugated iron roof might be fine. The chimney part could vent smoke out the back instead of up. No, what kind of metal is corrugated iron anyway…

“Hm?”

Returning to the cave’s main chamber, the Luminous Moss I had cultivated was illuminating the floor, but one spot was strangely bright. As I listened to Mion’s words, I squatted down towards the source of the light…

“Huh? What’s this? Oh, is it the Magic Stone I threw away?”

It wasn’t hot when I brought my finger close, so I picked it up and held it in front of me. What was once dark like a Magic Stone had somehow become transparent, with a light source softly floating inside.

“Shou-kun, [Appraisal].”

“Oh, right. Thanks.”

[Spirit Stone (Tiny): Light]
A Magic Crystal Stone imbued with a light spirit.

“Huh?”

“A spirit?!”

What, why? Light in a cave like this… The moss was glowing! No, that’s not it!

“Uh, Spirit Magic… found it! I can get it! [Spirit Magic: Lv1] requires 4 SP!”

I acquired it without hesitation! Come on!

[Spirit Stone (Tiny): Light]
A Magic Crystal Stone imbued with a light spirit. Spirit Magic: Can command a light spirit by consuming MP.

“I did it!”

“That’s amazing!”

“…How do I use Spirit Magic, though?”

I just took it, but I don’t know how to use it!

“Shall I check the forum?”

“Ah, yeah, please.”

“Okay. Just a moment.”

Elves can use Spirit Magic during character creation, so I don’t think there will be zero information. Still, I wonder why it changed from a ‘Magic Stone’ to a ‘Spirit Stone.’ Hmm? No, wait, what is this ‘Magic Crystal Stone’ ? I should [Appraise] this again…

[Magic Crystal Stone]
A Magic Stone from which monster mana has been removed. Elemental Magic: Can store MP. Spirit Magic: Becomes a dwelling for spirits.

Aha… So by leaving it here, the monster mana was gradually removed from the Magic Stone, and it became a Magic Crystal Stone. Then what about the other Magic Stones? I looked for the ones I had left lying around. I thought I had dumped them somewhere around here…

“Oh, I put them in a wooden cup so I wouldn’t lose them.”

And those Magic Stones showed no change. It seems only this one that spilled when I left it became a Magic Crystal Stone. …Why?

“Hmm, I wonder if this is it?”

I took out three tiny Magic Stones and placed them in the spot where I found the first one, in front of the Ancient Ruins entrance, and in front of the Cave entrance, respectively. If something in the Ancient Ruins is causing Magic Stones to become Magic Crystal Stones, then this should show a difference…

“Shou-kun, I found it.”

“Thanks. What’s it like?”

“It says if you convey an image to a spirit, it will roughly understand and manifest it.”

“Huh? That sounds pretty good just hearing that.”

No chanting needed, unlike Elemental Magic?

“That ‘roughly understand’ part seems to be the difficult bit. Sometimes nothing happens at all, or it consumes an incredible amount of MP.”

“I see…”

It’s like asking a spirit to do something and leaving it to them, but if it’s not conveyed well, then nothing would happen. And it’s a bit scary if it uses more MP than expected. I heard that if your MP drops to 0 in this game, you get stunned…

“Well, if I’m going to test it, it should be in a safe place.”

“Are you going to try using it?”

“Yeah. Oh, that’s right, did it say what the Light Spirit can do?”

I don’t think a Light Spirit can “create a wind barrier” or “cause a water current.” The safest option would be to use it as a torch-like light. Being able to blind enemies during combat would be strong, but I’m worried about MP consumption.

“Um…”

“Ah, it wasn’t written?”

“I think Shou-kun might be the first person to wield a Light Spirit.”

“Huh? …Seriously?”

“Yes. It seems most Elves wield either Wind, Tree, Water, or Earth spirits.”

That certainly makes sense. I don’t really imagine Elves constantly using fire spirits. But I thought someone would have been wielding a Light Spirit already.

“It might just not be on the forum, so for now, I’ll try something safe.”

“Something safe, you say?”

“Yeah. Um…”

To illuminate this cave gently, towards the ceiling, around there… I grasped the Spirit Stone and conveyed that image.

“Whoa!”

A ball of light smoothly ascended, stopping just before hitting the ceiling, and instantly illuminated the entire cave. It became as bright as a properly lit room, clear enough to fully grasp the layout of the main chamber.

“Amazing!”

“Good. It seems to have worked.”

How much MP did it consume? Huh? Just over 10? That’s quite low, isn’t it?

“It didn’t use as much MP as I expected, I wonder if that’s normal?”

“There was a mention that if it’s something suited to that spirit, the cost is low. But it seems they’re still verifying that.”

“Roger. Well, the Elves are still figuring things out too. It hasn’t even been a week since character creation.”

I guess I’ll just try things out little by little myself. At least I won’t have to worry about lighting the room when the log house is finished.

“Huh? How long will this stay lit? Does it continuously consume MP while it’s glowing?”

“It says that Wind Spirits can defend against projectiles, and you can ask them to release the effect. It seems MP will continuously decrease as needed while you’re requesting it, so you have to be careful not to run out of MP all at once.”

“Ah…”

So, if I ask it to defend against projectiles and 100 arrows fly at me, it can defend, but I’d collapse. Yeah, that’s dangerous.

“If it’s just lighting this chamber, that situation won’t happen. Alright, time for blacksmithing.”

“Um… did you feed Lupi-chan while I was researching?”

“?! Sorry! Was that considered ‘Stay’ just now?”

“Whimper…”

“I’ll make it right away!”

My ‘relaxed’ life seems quite far off…
