I holed up in the hut for a few hours. My face was soggy with tears and snot, but it was almost lunchtime and my stomach started growling.
nI knew in my head that I can’t stay like this forever, but I’m too scared to take action.
nThe urge for hunger has finally given me the energy to act.
nFor now, let’s analyze the situation. I’ve come to a different world. And a dangerous one at that.
nThe level of difficulty is much higher than trying to survive penniless in Japan.
nThe goblin from earlier might break through the door of this hut at any moment.
nYou can’t fight on an empty stomach.
nI put the fresh raw eggs I had collected earlier into my mouth together with the soy sauce I had stocked in the hut, and ate them. It was delicious. At any rate, I was glad to be a farmer.
nEggs are produced every day, and if I can just protect this hut, I miscght not starve to death for the time being.
nMoreover, even though I am in another world, there is a town within sight. It would only take about three hours to do a round trip on foot.
nSo, it might be possible to do some kind of trading.
nThen, I suddenly recalled that in isekai novels, it was customary to have appraisal skills, magic, or some other unique ability.
nThere is no guarantee that these fictional rules will apply to the real world, though.
nAs an experiment, I looked at a chicken and thought, “Appraisal!”
nIt was displayed as [Chicken: General chicken]. There are strings of unfamiliar character below it.
nOh! I thought to myself. At this point, my tension rises.
nThen, what about myself? I thought to myself, “Appraisal!”
nIt was displayed as [Keigo Okuda]. The same incomprehensible character string that I do not understand is written together.
nI was a little disappointed. I was hoping it would show my status or something.
nAfter roughly checking what’s in the hut, I made up my mind to survive.
nMaybe I was getting carried away with my appraisal skills. But I’m feeling a little more hopeful. If I have the appraisal skill, then I might be able to use magic.
nWithout a little hope or something like that, I don’t think I can survive.
nThere was a wooden container inside the hut, and I wondered if I could store rainwater in it. Rainwater would be drinkable, and drinking water is the most important thing for survival.
nSo, while holding the sickle, I gently opened the door of the hut.
n It was now 13:00 Japan Standard Time. I checked my wristwatch, so there is no doubt. The watch is a product that is said to be unbreakable even if the statue1 is stepped on, and it is solar-powered. I think it will be a very valuable item for survival. I would measure the time of sunset and sunrise2.
(t/n: dunno what MTL said, can’t make any sense from “watch”+”image/picture/statue”).
(t/n2: original text ‘time of darkness’, ‘time of dawn’).
It was bright outside. The sun is at its peak.
nI quickly put the wooden container outside and look around the hut. For now, there are no living things within sight, but there are various plants growing. Not that I had a background in agriculture, but I guessed they were plants that didn’t exist in Japan. I collected a few plants and returned to the hut.
nnnn
