Soldier’s Job 4

n

“Yes, sir!”

n

Tony drew his two-handed sword and swings it down the troll’s neck.

n

After a few swings, the neck finally came off the torso.

n

n

“Are you guys hurt?”

n

I heard Patrick’s voice.

n

“No serious injuries, just scrapes and bruises.”

n

“Good. Are you okay, Wayne?”

n

“Thank you for your help, platoon leader!”

n

Wayne responds with a half-smile.

n

“But we’re a bit unlucky to run into trolls so close to the royal capital, aren’t we?”

n

They all nodded at Patrick’s words.

n

“For now, I’ll take the troll’s head me and report back! Prepare to withdraw.”

n

“Roger that.”

n

“That is the end of the report! Colonel!”

n

Patrick said.

n

“Thank you! We’ll investigate later, go back and take a rest.”

n

A blue-eyed man with a bald head and barrel-like body answered.

n

“Ha! Excuse me.”

n

Patrick salutes and leaves.

n

“A troll in the nearby forest. What do you think?”

n

“I don’t like the sound of that. Would be nice if it’s a straggler. What do you think, Colonel Reydon?” (Original is RIIDON)

n

“A straggler, yes. But a scout, well, that’s a problem. Trolls usually travel in threes, don’t they? Worst case scenario, there could be two more lurking around.”

n

“How much do you want to send out to investigate?”

n

“I’ll give you a mobile ballista and a company. I’ll let you decide which squad you want to send out.”

n

“Ha! Immediately!”

n

When they returned, Patrick and company reported with the troll’s head and slept like mud, overcome with fatigue.

n

The next day, Patrick was awakened by a great commotion in the barracks.

n

“Hurry up and bring me the tanker!”

n

“Where are the bandages? Quickly!”

n

“Get a grip! Stay conscious! Don’t go to sleep!”

n

The sound of shouting and running footsteps.

n

Leaving the private room and heading towards the sound, I saw a soldier on a stretcher heading for the first aid room.

n

“Hey, what’s going on?”

n

Patrick catches a private who was nearby and asked him a question.

n

“One of our scouting company encountered two Trolls, and alreadydefeated, but there were 15 injured. Three of them were seriously injured. We just returned.”

n

He said so and left.

n

(If they went out to investigate immediately after that, did they arrive in the evening? You fought a night battle? Who is your commander? No matter how slow a troll is, fighting in the dark is not a good idea! You said there were two. What were you going to do if you got pinned down?)

n

Even though the troll’s legs are slow, the forest at night was not very runnable for man. If they ran, they would be sure to sprain their ankles. They can easily twist their ankles with rocks and branches.

n

When it comes to walking, a troll with a wider stride is faster.

n

Hence the theory of daytime battle in the forest.

n

(I’m sure you learned that in military training. Did you went gungho for the benefits? Or were you attacked in the middle of a camp? I guess it’s too late to say that now.)
